Transient Precipitation Increase During Winter in the Eastern North America

چکیده

Previous studies have reported that enhanced eddy moisture convergence causes future increase of winter precipitation in the eastern North America a warmer climate. This study investigates mechanisms change convergence. Using ensemble simulations from climate models and composite analysis budget, we show southeast United States, two thirds is caused by local thermodynamics due to moisture, while one third stronger wind In north, it primarily gradient associated with spatial distribution both climatological temperature large amplitudes region storm tracks. Results help better understand physical mechanism more

Comparative phylogeography of unglaciated eastern North America.

Regional phylogeographical studies involving co-distributed animal and plant species have been conducted for several areas, most notably for Europe and the Pacific Northwest of North America. Until recently, phylogeographical studies in unglaciated eastern North America have been largely limited to animals. As more studies emerge for diverse lineages (including plants), it seems timely to asses...

Decomposing the mid-Holocene Tsuga decline in eastern North America.

The mid-Holocene decline of Tsuga canadensis (hereafter Tsuga) populations across eastern North America is widely perceived as a synchronous event, driven by pests/pathogens, rapid climate change, or both. Pattern identification and causal attribution are hampered by low stratigraphic density of pollen-sampling and radiometric dates at most sites, and by absence of highly resolved, paired polle...

Dynamical Random-Set Modeling of Concentrated Precipitation in North America

In order to study climate at scales where policy decisions can be made, regional climate models (RCMs) have been developed with much finer resolution (∼50 km) than the ∼500 km resolution of atmosphere-ocean general circulation models (AOGCMs). The North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program (NARCCAP) is an international program that provides 50-km resolution climate output for the...

Owl winter irruptions as an indicator of small mammal population cycles in the boreal forest of eastern North America

Contrary to what is observed in Fennoscandia, it seems to be widely accepted that small mammals do not exhibit multi-annual population cycles in the boreal forest of North America. However, in the last thirty years, irruptions of vole predators such as owls have been reported by ornithologists south of the North American boreal forest. While such southerly irruptions have been associated in Fen...

Winter-to-summer precipitation phasing in southwestern North America: A multicentury perspective from paleoclimatic model-data comparisons

The phasing of winter-to-summer precipitation anomalies in the North American monsoon (NAM) region 2 (113.25°W–107.75°W, 30°N–35.25°N—NAM2) of southwestern North America is analyzed in fully coupled simulations of the Last Millennium and compared to tree ring reconstructed winter and summer precipitation variability. The models simulate periods with in-phase seasonal precipitation anomalies, bu...
